As This Author states, 30 years ago, over 5,000 wells were fracked in Washington County, exactly in the same manner that fracking is occurring today in the Marcellus, and Utica formations except that while we used a single stage frack they are using multiple stage ones. None of these 5,000 wells "resulted in leaving the community to clean up the resulting damage, and in many cases, unusable land." Having the luxury of looking back over 30 years at the oil boom which occurred in the early 1980s in Washington County, where are the ruined streams, polluted water wells and unusable land, that we are constantly being informed will occur if fracking is allowed to happen today. I believe, looking back that the 30 year time span demonstrates "the proof is in the pudding."

When Mildred and Richard Loving married in Washington, D.C. in 1958, they didn't think they were breaking the law. Both were from the small town of Central Point, Virginia. Mildred was of African-American and Native American decent and Richard was white. They did know it was illegal for them to marry in their state-as well as 15 others--which is why they left to tie the knot. Within a month of returning home, police burst into their bedroom in the middle of the night and arrested them under the state's anti-miscegenation law. They were sentenced to a one-year in prison term that could be suspended if they left Virginia.

Cuba's Santeria priests say that "what needs to die is not the world itself, but rather the ways in which the world has lived until now: confrontations, wars, misery and discrimination," said Lazaro Cuesta, one of the island's leading Santeria priests, or babalawo. "For us, an old world must end so that a new world is born .... It is not a physical end."
As I age, study, and observe, I see christians rapidly falling away from the teachings of the Bible (Both Old Testament and New).
Love thy neighbor, do unto others as you would yourself, put no other God before me, being a good steward, do not judge, forgiving ALL debts every seven years, Log Cabin Republicans, and so on are teachings that are no longer followed by the new christians of the world.
Hate, lies, greed, and coveting are rife today.
Spirituality should be practiced as KISS.
More people are killed or destroyed in the name of religion today than ever before and even more than the Crusades and Inquisition, both rabid religious based undertakings. I find that there is good in all teachings and yes, some bad, but we need to know about these other beliefs and draw the wisdom from all of them.
Maybe these Santeria priests are right, maybe the Mayans are right, but I hope to see the death of unsound spiritual practices and not the earth as we know it.
Be good stewards of the earth and its resources, respect thy neighbor, and help those who have less than you do.

Small wineries want opportunity - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
As a old time moderate/progressive type who believes in Free Enterprise, and much less government intervention, patronage systems such as the PA Liqueur Control Board should go, and if Tea Partiers are serious they should start their endeavors here, not in the taxation and Commonweal programs they are attacking.
I have traveled intensively in my career, but I will only talk about the US part of that when it comes to choice.
In states that have privatized and reformed their systems, there IS more choice, more outlets, and usually lower prices or prices competitive to PA.
Sure the convenience stores have less of a selection, but they cater to a clientele that opts for that, the stores won't sell what doesn't make a profit. There are speciality retailers that have large and diverse collections in these states that can provide product.
I can go into stores in Ohio, Alabama, and a few others and pick up excellent domestic and imported wines for less than $5.00 a liter. Local wines and even private label are available for even less. I remember years ago seeing NY state wines for sale in PA's system, but not wines from Erie, wines that I either had to drive to purchase or buy in NY for consumption there.
While we are at it, allow restaurants & pizza shops to deliver beer and wine to hotels to accommodate the traveler eating in or even delivery to homes for consumption. In the past, it has been great working in a state that allowed a bottle of beer to be delivered with my sandwich or a multi-pack with my pizza.
Bring back freedom of choice!
